Terawatt’s Original Research

Terawatt is committed to providing valuable insights you can use. We produce research on three areas to help all of us thrive:

  1. The future of work
  2. Stakeholder opinions of internal learning & development (L&D) programs
  3. The regulatory and practical aspects of human capital management

After producing this body of research, our biggest insight is that the most interesting nuggets come from discrete, rather than broad, groups. For instance, we were blown away to learn from Terawatt’s 2022 Professional Development Survey that people who identified as Latino felt that internal professional development programs were unfair. As a group, this opinion was significantly different from the group that identified as white.

Ultimately, this makes sense. The average opinion from a group is–by definition–a gauge of conventional wisdom, but the smaller groups’ opinions expose the significant deviations. For instance, when we understood that Latino employees felt professional development was given out unfairly, it highlighted the problems of selection bias, an inability to self-select, and the potential for tracking professional development to roles.

Because Terawatt believes individual growth powers the collective, our research insights help us make better and more insightful decisions and develop better solutions. A few examples:

  1. One group thinks L&D is unfair? Make it available on-demand.
  2. Women don’t know if their companies have L&D programs? Publicize them internally.
  3. Do CFOs have a key threshold for allocating capital to professional development programs? Create a beta program to develop a baseline ROI.
