ABOUT ME:

Carly Janson is a certified executive coach, facilitator, and leadership advisor with over 25 years of experience. Carly partners with high-performing clients and organizations to help them reach their full potential, become exemplary leaders in their fields, and find greater fulfillment in their careers and lives. Carly believes that leadership is a journey, not a destination. She works with clients to develop a customized coaching, advising, or facilitation plan that aligns with specific goals, challenges, and aspirations. Leadership is not one-size-fits-all, and Carly’s tailored approach ensures that clients get the support they need.

In addition to her private practice, Carly is a university educator, CEO, and founder of New Sector Alliance, an innovation incubator and leadership development company. Since 2003, she has taught leadership and career management courses at Harvard and Stanford Business School. From 2012 to 2023, she served as a Director of the Career Management Center at Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB). She oversaw Alumni Career Services for Stanford GSB’s 30,000+ alumni, taught dozens of programs, and coached hundreds of MBA and mid-career students and alumni. She also co-founded and led the GSB’s Career and Life Design program in partnership with the Stanford Life Design Lab and Dave Evans, co-author of Designing Your Life.

Carly started her career in management consulting at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Accenture, where she worked with clients in financial services, health care, technology, and the public sector and built expertise in talent development. She co-founded BCG’s Social Impact Practice and served as a leadership and career development advisor for the firm. Carly serves on the boards of the GreenLight Fund, the Institute for Nonprofit Practice, MannLab, and New Sector Alliance. In her free time, she enjoys downhill skiing, food and wine, and spending time with family and friends at home and across the globe.

FUN FACT:

After three decades away, I recently moved back to my hometown outside of Chicago. I was born in New Orleans, grew up outside Chicago, and then lived on the East Coast (Princeton, NJ, New York City, Washington DC, Boston) and West Coast (San Francisco and Palo Alto, CA) for most of my adult life. I have worked on-site and/or virtually with clients across six of the seven continents (Africa, Asia, Australia/Oceania, Europe, North America, and South America), and I hope to make it to Antarctica one day. One of my favorite books is Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage.
